Welsh Country Pub with Rooms owner talks about preparations for their Post Covid19 reopening

The Greyhound Inn, just outside of Usk, Monmouthshire are all set for reopening their establishment following the government’s announcements that bars and restaurants, are able to reopen their outdoor spaces from Monday 13 July 2020 in Wales. The popular rural pub set in beautiful countryside is just 20 minutes from Newport, South Wales has been closed since the 21st of March, following the Covid19 closure announcements.
During lock down Landlords Kelly and Steve Jolliffe have been rigorously monitoring published regulations and carefully preparing plans and procedures to ensure a smooth reopening on the 13th, showing how effectively they can adapt and change their business model. “The few weeks has been a whirlwind! We have successfully acquired the Industry Standard ‘We’re Good To Go’ mark means that we comply with the government and industry COVID-19 guidelines. We have a thorough Risk Assessment in place and strict processes to ensure we maintain cleanliness and aid social distancing once we open on the 13 July.”
Easing restrictions which will allow hotels, restaurants and bars to reopen in Wales will be subject to both statutory regulation and best practice. Kelly goes on to say,
“It will require us to maintain social distancing for both our guests and team members. However, with a beer garden the size of ours, we are fortunate to be able to still welcome people here, whilst still offering them space. One of the main differences is that we are asking people to book with us now. This will enable us to capture telephone numbers so that we can support the Track, Trace and Protect system that is in place. We have also changed everything to table service. We have tried to keep as much of our popular menu as possible as well as making sure that we made them single use.”
Customers will be asked to confirm that they have not exhibited any signs of Covid-19 in the previous 14 days.
“Even though, we have 10 ensuite bedrooms, situated away from the pub, in a separate stable block (making it a fabulous socially distanced space) we have decided to keep the bedrooms shut for the time being, to enable us to focus on getting the Pub part right for everyone. We are hoping to be able to re-open the bedrooms at the end of July. Hospitality is a service industry, we’ve missed our customers so much! It’s going to be hard work to get back up and running but we really can’t wait!) Just hoping our customers understand that we may be a bit rusty, coming back after 4 months, but we will get back into the swing of things asap. We are so excited to welcome everyone back”.
